U-14 Hurling - 28th May 2012 - Gort v Salthill / Knocknacarra

Gort 3-03 (12)

Salthill / Knocknacarra 2-07 (13)

Gort played Salthill / Knocknacarra in a play-off game in the U-14B championship in Oranmore last night. Gort started well and led by 2-02 to 1-03 at half time thanks to goals from Jordan Cahill and Gustavo Dutra and 2 well taken points from Stephen Kelly. Unfortunately, Salthill got a soft goal just at the end of the half which gave them renewed confidence heading out for the second half.

The second half was a ding dong battle with Salthill going into a 5 point lead before a Gort goal from Stephen Kelly left just 2 points between the sides with 5 minutes remaining. Gort had a number of opportunities in the closing 5 minutes but could only get the 1 score, a fine point from Enda Kelly, to leave them trailing by 1 point at the final whistle.

Salthill now progress to the quarter final stages while Gort have to face Killimordaly next Thursday evening to determine who will fill the last remaining quarter final place. Best for Gort on the night were Liam Nolan, Brian Mullins, Gary Clay, Jack O'Connor & Stephen Kelly.

Gort: S. Roche, A. Hogan, L. Nolan, C. Finnegan, I. Neilan, M. Hayes, C. Finn, B. Mullins, G. Clay, J O'Connor, B. Cleary, J. Cahill (1-0), D. Moran, G. Dutra (1-0), S. Kelly (1-02). Subs:- E. Kelly (0-01) for D. Moran, J. Nolan for B. Cleary, M. McKiernan, J. O'Donoghue.
