U-14 Hurling - 31st May 2012 - Gort v Killimordaly

Gort 3-05 (14)
Killimordaly 2-02 (8)
(after extra time)

Gort U-14s played Killimordaly in a play-off game last Thursday night to determine which of the two teams qualified for the quarter final stages of the U-14B Championship. The game was tight throughout with both teams evenly matched and it was no surprise when the game finished level at the end of normal time with both sides having scored 2-02 each.

Gort's goals in normal time came from a Stephen Kelly 65m free and from a typical defence bursting run from Gustavo Dutra. Stephen Kelly added on a pointed free and Jack O'Connor scored a fine point from play. However Killimordaly refused to die away and fought back to level the game with 10 minutes remaining. Indeed they had a chance to go a goal up at this stage only for a brilliant save from Sean Roche in the Gort goal. Gort had numerous chances to win the game in the last few minutes of normal time but failed to convert any of them.

In extra time, Gort pulled away convincingly with Jordan Nolan coming off the bench to score a great goal and Gustavo Dutra and Stephen Kelly adding on further points to secure a 6 point victory. Best for Gort on the day were Liam Nolan, Ivan Neilan, Brian Mullins, Gustavo Dutra & Jack O'Connor but it was  definitely a team victory as all 17 players used played very well on the day. Next up is a quarter final meeting against Turloughmore on Bank Holiday Monday, 4th June.
