Senior Hurling - 4th June 2012 - Kilbeacanty Sevens

Gort won the 2012 Kilbeacanty 7 a-side Hurling Tournament held on Bank Holiday Monday last. This is the first time since 2006 that Gort have managed to win this competition and it was a first 7 a-side medal for a number of our players, including captain Andrew Coen.

Gorts opening game was against an under-strength Beagh team which was won convincingly on a scoreline of 10-02 to 2-02. This put Gort through to a semi-final meeting against Tubber in which we came out on top with 3 goals to spare.

The final saw Gort pitted against neighbours St. Thomas's. The game started off very tight but eventually Gort got on top and ran out convincing winners in the end on a score-line of 4-07 to 3-05. Gort captain, Andrew Coen, collected the McCarthy Cup, while Aidan Harte was awarded Player of the Tournament. Gort Treasurer, Pat Loughnane, was last seen heading for the gate in Kilbeacanty with a cheque for €1,500 tucked under his arm and a large grin on his face!!!

The Gort team on the day was Peter Cummins, Andrew Coen, Michael Cummins, Aidan Harte, Niall Forde, Greg Lally, Gerard O'Donoghue, Paul Killilea, Gerry Quinn & Wayne Walsh.
