U14 Hurling - 4th June 2012 - Gort v Turloughmore

Gort 1-05
Turloughmore 5-05

Gort's run in the County U-14B Championship came to an end on Monday morning in Carnmore when they were beaten by a strong Turloughmore side. Gort started well and had a load of goal scoring opportunites in the first half but only managed to convert one of them meaning they went in at the break trailing by 2-03 to 1-00.

Turloughmore, on the other hand, were very good at making the most of all their chances and added on another 3 goals in the second half to which Gort replied with some fine points from Stephen Kelly and Brian Mullins. Gort can take a lot of heart from this performance because although the scoreline suggests a comprehensive defeat, they matched Turloughmore in all areas of the field. the main difference between the sides was the Turloughmore full-forward line were very strong and clinical in front of goal.

This defeat means the end of the road for this years Under 14 side. This group will now split in two and all those eligible for U-13 will start preparing for the U-13 championship which starts next week and those over 13 will join the U-16 panel who will be back training once the Junior Cert is completed.

Gort:- S. Roche, A. Hogan, L. Nolan, C. Finnegan, I. Neilan, M. Hayes, C. Finn, B. Mullins (0-2), G. Clay, J. O'Connor, B. Cleary, J. Cahill, D. Moran, G. Dutra, S. Kelly (1-3). Subs:- E. Kelly for C. Finnegan, J. Nolan for D. Moran, J. O'Donoghue for J. O'Connor.
